Ronny Janssens, born in Belgium graduated from the Stedelijk Instituut voor Technisch Onderwijs in Mechelen in 1978 with a degree in clinical chemistry. He started his career at the Radio Immuno Assay laboratory at the Universitair Ziekenhuis Brussels in 1979.
He joined the team of Prof. André Van Steirteghem and Prof. Paul Devroey as an embryologist in 1983. Since then he has been involved in the start-up and development of the IVF laboratory at the centre for Reproductive Medicine. He worked with Gianpierro Palermo when ICSI was discovered at UZ Brussel in 1992. Untill 2019, Ronny Janssens was senior embryologist and Quality Manager of the Centre for Reproductive Medicine of the Universitair Ziekenhuis Brussel where he was responsible for the implementation of a quality system and accreditation according to ISO 17025 and later ISO15189 and he is auditor for the Belgian accreditation body (BELAC). He has been an ESHRE member since 1985 and cofounder of the paramedical group within ESHRE.
Over the last years he consulted in lab design, start-up, troubleshooting and functioning of several embryology laboratories worldwide and is owner of BE-ART IVF, a consuling and auditting company and is scientific advisor at the Centre for Reproductive Medicine at UZ Brussel, Belgium. He has been an invited speaker in several International and National workshops and Conferences and cooperates with the industry in equipment design and validation.
